Every century or so, a 10-meter meteor slams into the Earth with the force of a small nuclear device. Tunguska was the site of the last, in 1908, and it was pure luck that that meteor landed in the uninhabited wilderness of Siberia.
What would the world be like today if the meteorite had hit 18 hours later and flattened Washington, DC? (Or Austria, killing Hitler, or Moscow, killing Lenin and returning the Romanovs to power…). What’s more, what if the blast that destroyed a capital city was claimed by someone to be their work with a superweapon?

What a lot of people don’t realize is that once the euphoria of selling your novel wears off, the real work starts. See, a publisher doesn’t take the book and just print it. You’ll go through many, many steps. I thought it would be fun to walk you through the process.

Wondering “How long is my book? How long should my book be? What genre is my book or novel?” Keep reading. If you have written a novel, use this article to be sure that your book meets the basic guidelines of literary agents and book publishers. You will be more likely to be published if your book follows the “rules” of your genre (whether romance, thriller, Western, fantasy, young adult, historical, or horror).

Moonlight like liquid silver pours over leaves
And wind whispers through the tree tops.
Grass tickles between my toes and I think of you.
The rose, the thorn, the scent on the breeze.
Velvet black scattered with diamonds press down
And I step to the flower, reaching for its beauty.
Even in the dark, the red color shines bright.
Mist cools my skin as I kneel on the ground.
A single rose for a single memory, wanting more.
